Sunday Sessions gets its title from the day of the week when most of the work happened, yes, but it also emanates a vibe of Sunday-ness. The peppiest of the 3 tracks sits at a relatively mellow 95bpm, and its major genre inspirations skew toward the downtempo. Opener "Wise Up" covers Aimee Mann by way of Tycho; "Starbloom" is a spacey groove that pulls from the sci-fi sounds of classic electronica as well as the hypnotic textures of ambient and trip hop; and the aforementioned 95bpm "Giant" sets reverberating noise and an insistent reggaeton beat against sinuous and soaring strings. This isn't a definitive statement of musical identity, nor was it a deliberate attempt to capture a particular feeling, but there's something about it that's so very Sunday.
As a2n, Zach Sharrow is taking another shot at making music.
After spending much of his teens and 20s as a hobbyist songwriter and music producer/mix engineer, Zach took an extended break from music that came to an end in 2023. What brought him back? A DJ deck. Now, he's combining the pop, rock, and folk influences of his youth with a newfound appreciation for the world of electronic dance music. Expect cuts that range from dreamy to driving -- and possibly both at once -- unified by a preference for steady ebbs and flows over massive builds and drops, impressionistic and introspective lyrics, an a healthy dose of idiosyncrasy (his track I Saw the Rain hides the sound of a cordless drill among a wash of distorted electric piano and Hammond organ).
